No Further Action on Wishart Allegations

Unless complaints are received Police will be taking no further action on allegations made in the current issue of Investigate Magazine, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lyn Provost, said today.

Mrs Provost was commenting on the decision of the Police Complaints Authority that allegations in their present form are not matters contemplated by the PCA Act as a basis for a Police Complaints Authority inquiry.

"As the PCA has noted, some of the historical allegations have already been the subject of internal investigation and/or disciplinary action by the Police or have been the subject of investigation and report by the Police Complaints Authority.

"Allegations were also looked at as part of the work by the Commission of Inquiry into Police Conduct. That inquiry was expressly mandated to carry out a full, independent investigation into the way in which New Zealand Police had dealt with allegations of sexual assault against members of the police and associates of Police.

"Police have had no complaints lodged with us in the wake of the Wishart article . If Police receive any formal complaints alleging criminal offending then we will look at them. In the absence of such complaints no further action is contemplated," said Mrs Provost.
