Te Kāea Story Clarification

Māori Television has provided the following clarification regarding complaints of an incorrect story on its news programme Te Kāea yesterday:

Te Kāea broadcast a story advising that the Foreshore and Seabed Act (Repeal) Bill was expected to be debated before Parliament last evening. The story that was broadcast at 7.30pm without subtitles was correct.

However, the late edition of Te Kāea, which is a subtitled version of the 7.30pm edition, contained subtitling which was incorrect. The subtitling was a misinterpretation of the voice report. The reporter is not responsible for the subtitling error.

Māori Television is satisfied that the story itself was correct. However, Māori Television acknowledges that the subtitling of the story was incorrect and apologises for this error.

Tonight’s editions of Te Kāea will carry this clarification and an apology for the subtitling error.
