Auckland City Mission: Seeking volunteers…

Seeking volunteers…

The Auckland City Mission invites anybody who cares about our community (and has a cheerful disposition!) to help with the Mission’s Street Appeal in Auckland’s CBD, Newmarket and Takapuna on Friday, December 7.

The Street Appeal is part of the Auckland City Mission’s Annual Christmas Appeal, supporting the most marginalised people in our community.

Taking part in the Street Appeal: is a wonderful way to help one of our city’s leading charitable organisations and to experience first hand the enormous generosity alive in our community. is a great team-building exercise and opportunity to interact with other socially-minded people. requires minimal time commitment and is perfect for groups of people with busy schedules. Participation is simple, involves no begging, pleading or asking – just a friendly face!

We supply collectors’ bibs, buckets and stickers.

Date: Friday December 7

Times/locations: 7.30am-9.30am or 12pm-2pm, Auckland CBD and Newmarket 9am-9pm, Westfield Mall, St Lukes (volunteers will be rostered) 9am-6pm, Westfield Mall, Takapuna (volunteers will be rostered) 12-2pm Takapuna city centre

About the Auckland City Mission Since 1920 the Auckland City Mission has been working with those most in need in our community.

Core services include: an inner- city Drop In centre; feeding families and individuals; supporting those living in poverty with community social work assistance; providing food, clothing and furniture to families and individuals in need; an extensive range of programmes for the homeless; supporting people to overcome addictions; providing community support for those living with HIV/Aids; offering good quality affordable clothing, furniture and other goods through New Beginnings second-hand shops; and helping make sure poor Auckland families can celebrate Christmas.

It costs the Mission $3.8 million every year to provide its services. Only 9.1 per cent of this is government funded. The rest – 90.9 per cent – is raised through the Mission’s fundraising efforts and the generosity of Aucklanders.
