Christchurch group promotes Open Adoption

Voice for Life welcomes the news that a DVD promoting Open Adoption is now available from Adoption Option in Christchurch.

Women and girls facing a crisis pregnancy are usually counseled that their options are to keep the baby, or have an abortion.

Understandably the thought of bringing up a baby on one’s own is fairly daunting, compared with the solution of removing the pregnancy.

The popular image of adoption is of the birth mother having her newborn baby taken from her and handed over to strangers. That practice called Closed Adoption is long gone.

Open Adoption enables a woman to have a positive choice that is life-giving.

She gets to choose and meet the prospective parents for her child – and keep in contact by mutual agreement.

We are not suggesting that it is easy; heartache and loss are inevitable.

But in New Zealand today increasing numbers of married couples in their 30s are belatedly discovering that successive IVF treatments haven’t worked for them. They face the tragedy of childlessness, believing that not enough babies are available for adoption.

Voice for Life believes that with more widespread backing and official support, Open Adoption provides a life-giving alternative, gives more choice to the birth mother and joy to infertile couples.
