New Zealand Defence Force Tsunami Relief – Update 6

Iroquois helicopters
• RNZAF Iroquois helicopters have completed an aid drop to Manono Island today and are continuing to support requests from non-government organisations and local agencies.

Medics
• Medics are now supporting a clinic at Lalomanu with a detachment working from the Poutasi area, while the NZDF environmental health team is working with the Samoan Ministry of Health Public Health team.

Navy Divers
• The Navy divers continue to search the Upolo to Namu’a Island water pipeline for breaks.

Engineers
• The Engineers have completed their search tasking with the NZ Police, and are now reconnoitring new tasks, and preparing to join the medics in the Poutasi area.

Boeing 757
• An RNZAF Boeing 757 has completed a flight to New Zealand today with one deceased person, aero-medical evacuation patients and family members on board.

HMNZS CANTERBURY
• The HMNZS Canterbury remains on 8 hours notice to sail, in order to be ready for whatever tasking is decided by the Government.

There are now 102 NZDF personnel in Samoa.
