Watch for Scammers Say Tsunami Appeals Committee

8 OCTOBER 2009 MEDIA RELEASE

Watch Out for Scammers Say Tsunami Appeals Committee
The Samoa Tsunami 2009 Appeals Charitable Trust Committee is warning the public to watch out for charity scammers seeking to make personal gain from the tragedy of last week’s events in Samoa. The committee says people wanting to make cash donations should use the formally adopted bank and appeal channels.

It wishes to advise that the committee has not authorised any door-to-door or person-to-person collection of funds regarding the relief operations.

The committee cautions against giving cash to any door knockers or collections unless proper identification and credentials that approved and authorised are presented.

Should this position change, it will advise the public in due course.
