New Zealand's shameful neglect of children

CHILD POVERTY ACTION GROUP.

CPAG  endorses the views of New Zealand's leading paeditricians who have highlighted New Zealand's shameful neglect of children.

Last night Close-up presented a shocking report on the cost of after-hours health care for our children.

Here is the link to the programme:Close-up: Gambling with Childrens Health.
Note:  The clip begins with a short advertisement for a car.

CPAG urges the Government to  immediately prioritise the needs of  the growing number of poor children in New Zealand. Professor Innes Asher speaks of the connection between growing poverty and poor health outcomes. CPAG urges the government to make all after hours doctors visits free for all children and significantly increase family incomes of the poorest children in New Zealand.

New Zealand already holds the dubious distinction of being one of the unhealthiest places in the OECD to bring up children - this is a trend we can and must reverse.

Gordon Campbell: Putting The SAS Back Into Afghanistan

Who has stolen John Key’s brain? The Prime Minister who only a couple of months ago was demanding to see a viable exit strategy before he would put New Zealand combat troops back into Afghanistan, has been replaced by a John Key impersonator for whom the vaguest of goals – combatting global terrorism – now seems like a darn good reason for doing so.
