Leaders in field to speak at seminar on Social Policy Forum next week

On Monday 15 January, the first of a series of regional seminars on the proposed Auckland Social Policy Forum will be held on the North Shore.

Hosted by North Shore Community Social Services and Raeburn House, the seminar is an opportunity for community groups and individuals to come to grips with the Government discussion document on the proposed Auckland Social Policy Forum. Feedback closes on Friday 12 May

The Monday seminar will be opened by North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams and led by two leading thinkers in the social policy field - Dr Emma Davies and Elizabeth Rowe.

Elizabeth Rowe was the author of the research report on social wellbeing for the Royal Commission on Auckland Governance, and Dr Emma Davies is the Programme Director Social Development for the Institute of Public Policy at AUT.

North Shore Community Social Services spokesperson Yvonne Powley says that the seminar is the first of an Aucklandwide series about the proposed Social Policy Forum, which is expected to provide a dedicated forum for central and local government to find agreement on a response to Auckland’s social issues.

Minister Bennett is asking for feedback on the form and function of the forum, the types of issues it should be considering, and how it can best engage with Auckland's diverse communities and social organisation
