At the opening of the redeveloped Kingsland Station yesterday, Auckland Regional Council (ARC) Chairman Michael Lee took stock of progress to ensure Auckland is ready for Rugby World Cup 2011.

Plans to prepare Auckland for the tournament are well advanced, including:

• Kingsland Station is now open as a stadium station able to handle fans heading to Eden Park by train
• Auckland’s western rail line has double tracks to ensure quick and reliable train services
• Queens Wharf is in public ownership and will become a place where people celebrate
• Work is under way at Wynyard Quarter to showcase Auckland’s waterfront to the world

Mr Lee presented Eden Park with the ARC’s $10 million contribution to its redevelopment and is urging Aucklanders to keep their eyes on the prize – a great Rugby World Cup and an even better city.
