EPMU supports call for Minister to intervene

EPMU supports Faulkner Collins' call for Minister to intervene

The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) supports Faulkner Collins' call for the Minister of Transport, Stephen Joyce, to intervene and halt the seizure of the Mt Roskill business and resolve the current situation, says EPMU national secretary Andrew Little..

"The EPMU supports Faulkner Collins' call for the Minister of Transport, Stephen Joyce, to intervene and halt the seizure of the Mt Roskill business and resolve the situation," says Andrew Little.

"Transit NZ don't need to force a closure, sending the company and 50 Kiwi workers to the wall," he says.

"As the minister responsible for Transit NZ Stephen Joyce needs to step in and fix the issue," he says.

"The government has shown it can assist people affected by the collapse of South Canterbury Finance and Warner Brothers over 'The Hobbit' movie, so it isn't out of their reach to help this business deal with the compulsory relocation required by it for the Waterview Tunnel project."

"Government agencies should be assisting businesses like this, especially at this difficult time for the New Zealand economy."

"The government needs to show it cares about these jobs as much as any other and work with the business, not use its might to push it around to get what the government wants."

The EPMU, which represents most of the staff at Faulkner Collins, says the attempt on Friday by State agencies to seize the business was an outrageous response to a long simmering issue which threatens to close the business and the cost of and will only threaten 50 good jobs.

The State agencies said on Friday that the firm has until midday Monday (8 November) to make a payment or face the same threat. The EPMU has undertaken to support the firm again if necessary.
