RNZN Ahead and Astern
06 December 2010
Enclosed is a copy of Ahead & Astern, a snap-shot of the activities and operations of the Royal New Zealand Navy over the last financial year, and a look forward to activities and operations over the next.
The Navy’s role is to contribute to the security and prosperity of all New Zealanders by protecting New Zealand’s maritime interests around our coast, our off shore islands and abroad. As you will see the Navy’s work is varied and challenging, taking our ships to distant places from the Western Pacific to New Zealand’s Sub-Antarctic Islands. Navy personnel also serve in peacekeeping, humanitarian and reconstruction roles around the world; from the Middle-East and Afghanistan to the Pacific and Haiti.
I hope you find the stories of our people and reports of our operations interesting and informative.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you the compliments of the Season and the New Year.
Sincerely,
A.J. (Tony) PARR, MVO
Rear Admiral
Chief of Navy
