Nick Smith to Speak About Water for Recreation

14 July 2011

Minister of Environment, Hon Nick Smith, to Speak About Water for Recreation at Thinking Recreation! Event in Nelson, 13-15 July 2011

Seminar for Recreation Planners & Policy Makers

The New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) is currently holding its annual Thinking Recreation! conference in Nelson with a stimulating programme of speakers and workshops focussing on the topic of Sustainability: Energy, Water, Collaboration.

Presenters will look at how collaboration and wise use of water and energy all lead to more sustainable recreation and well-being in the community. Recreation planners from around the country will discuss and learn what is working, what to avoid, and how to be future-looking as they plan, guide decision-making and develop efficiencies around recreation and sport services and facilities.

The Hon Nick Smith, Minister for the Environment, will open the third day of the conference with a talk that touches on water for recreation, freedom camping and more. Other highlights of the three-day seminar include a look at the early learnings from the Auckland amalgamation, as well as its future opportunities. SPARC will also outline its Plan for Recreation with a keynote speech as well as a workshop on day three. See attached programme for full details.
