Labour's plan is about 'Owning Our Future'

Labour's plan is about 'Owning Our Future'

Young Labour
Press Statement for Immediate Release

Labour's new economic policy offers young people hope and the opportunity to own their own future.

“Our bold new plan is about growth, fairness and opportunity and is the game changer the economy needs to provide a better future for young people in this country” said Young Labour president Ella Hardy.

"In the last few years young Kiwis have faced the crippling effects of National's attacks on worker's rights, their inaction on the high youth unemployment rate and now their policy of selling off our future, by flogging off our assets for short term gain. This is bad news for the future of our young people in New Zealand."

"We now have a real alternative", she affirmed.

Currently half of the most wealthy New Zealanders pay no tax whatsoever - Young Labour's position is that this is not fair. Young people who are lucky enough to have a job under the current government are paying tax on every cent they earn. Labour's plan will see the wealthy pay their fair share and easing the burden on struggling young Kiwis.

“Without this plan, our generation will never be able to afford to buy their own home and as a Capital Gains Tax will not apply to the family home, most New Zealanders will never be affected by this tax.”

Comments from Young Nationals President Daniel Fielding about Labour's plan show how disconnected he is from young people in New Zealand. “Daniel's comments that a capital gains tax will hit youth with rent prices is simply not reflected in the result of such a tax in other OECD nations”, concluded Hardy.
