Historian fundraising to publish book on Occupy
Christchurch
Christchurch activist Byron Clark is
fundraising to record an oral history of the Occupy movement
in the city.
“We don’t know exactly how much the
Occupy movement will change the world, but Time named
‘The Protester’ as their person of the year in 2011, and
museums in the US are building collections of ‘Occupy
artefacts’ decades from now people will be wondering what
was going on locally, and without a project like this the
historical record will be sparse”.
Clark is raising
money though the online ‘crowd funding’ website PledgeMe
which allows users to pledge money toward the
project.
“I’m going to interview as many participants
in the movement as I can, so that every story, every point
of view can be recorded.”
If the fundraising is
successful a book will be published that will be donated to
libraries in the city, so that a history of Occupy
Christchurch is available to anyone.
