Young Labour declares abortion reform imperative
"Young Labour is excited to begin our
campaign on abortion law reform," said Young Labour
President, Jessie Lipscombe. "Young Labour members from all
over the country have been organising at Labour's Regional
Conferences to make decriminalisation of abortion Labour
Party policy."
"Young Labour members are proud to be standing up for women and the need to ensure their access to safe and decriminalised abortion services," said Lipscombe, "it is important that we fight for those currently denied that by outdated laws and inequity of access."
"Anti-abortion groups like Right to Life need to catch up with where young people are on this issue and allow women to lead the discussion on their bodies and choices," said Young Labour's Women's Organiser, Chelsea Torrance.
"It is ironic that the male spokesperson of Right to Life, an organisation that wants to strip women of the right to choose what happens inside their own bodies, somehow thinks Young Labour has declared a 'war on women'," said Torrance, "if they cared about women and their well being, they would be supporting Young Labour's endeavours to campaign for legal, safe and accessible abortions".
