Victim Outrage At Top Chef in Prisons
RED RAINCOAT TRUST:
Victim Outrage At Top Chef in Prisons
Red Raincoat Trust expresses the need for balance with regards to top chef Martin Bosley teaching prisoners at Rimutaka Prison to cook for paying customers at an upcoming Wellington on a Plate event.
“Homicide victim family’s we are engaged with often cannot work themselves, crippled by the grief of losing a loved one, they are then also disadvantaged through the loss of wages. Whilst we applaud Martin for giving his time and we acknowledge the need for prisoners to be work ready when they leave prison, does it need to be conducted at this high level?” said Debbie Marlow a spokesperson for the Red Raincoat Trust.
“It seems crazy that these prisoners are afforded such an opportunity when some of the victims we know, struggle with everyday life after the crime.”
The Red Raincoat Trust is a not for profit organisation whom advocates for serious crime and homicide victims families. The trust offers advice and assistance to these victims, advising them of the existing services available to them and providing a support and communication network of families of these crimes.
We are currently working on a fundraising event to support victim’s families. We are looking to work with high profile chefs in New Zealand, which will provide a sense of balance for these families and hope that it will give them a rare sense of normality in their shattered lives.
