Women in Leadership – Challenges & Triumphs
Women in Leadership – Challenges & Triumphs
Was Julie Gillard a ‘real’ female Prime Minister? Helen Clark is a supporter of boardroom gender quotas – just two headlines in recent days that look at women in leadership roles.
Mind Warriors
International, the creators of the award-winning JOLT
Challenge system are taking the opportunity of the Sir
Peter Blake Leadership Week to look at this very issue,
Women in leadership – Challenges and Triumphs.
Join Jacinda Ardern (Labour Party), Shelley
Campbell (CEO, Sir Peter Blake Trust), Sarah Trotman
(Director of Business Relations, AUT University Business
School), and Victoria Crone (GM Marketing & Sales,
Chorus) where they share the challenges and triumphs in
leadership and the role that Self Intelligence
(self-awareness and self-management) has played in their
journeys.
This is a candid discussion facilitated by
Wade Jackson, director of Mind Warriors International
and will provide insight and inspiration for anyone
interested in leadership in New Zealand, whatever the
industry.
“This is a prevalent topic,” says Wade Jackson, “and we have seen the success in organisations in providing support and sharing stories to develop more female leaders.”
It makes good sense to have more women in leadership roles. A McKinsey report found companies with strong representation of women at senior level performed the best on a range of financial indicators Recent Catalyst Global research shows that organisations with diverse management teams had a 35.1% higher return on equity but here in New Zealand, we are failing to harness it.
How does New Zealand
fare?
• In New Zealand, women hold 19% CEO/MD positions – down from 22% in 2006 • In New Zealand, women hold 8.65% (54 out of 624) of Board of Director positions on NZSX • New Zealand ranks 10th globally in female representation in business management – down from 4th in 2004 • In 2010, of the last 22 public service departmental chief executive positions, only one • woman was appointed and that was as chief executive to the Ministry of Women's Affairs.
There’s a whole lot of room for
improvement and this forum will increase awareness around
pitfalls and strategies for success.
