Labour to open nominations for its Christchurch East by-election candidate
The Labour Party today announced that nominations for its Christchurch East by-election candidate would open on Monday 29th July and close at 12 Noon on September 4th. This will be followed by a selection process.
Anyone over the age of 18 who is a member of the Labour Party is eligible to be nominated; the paperwork will be available on www.labour.org.nz.
Tim Barnett, General Secretary of the Labour Party, said today:
“Labour runs democratic and rigorous selection processes, and this will be no exception. Christchurch East has enjoyed very high quality Labour representation in Parliament for many years, and our commitment is to select a candidate who can continue that fine tradition”.
Andrew McKay, Chair of Christchurch East Labour Electorate Committee, said today:
“Lianne Dalziel has been an amazing MP through some of the toughest times which it is possible for any community to face. As she prepares to move on to serve our city in other ways, we owe it to the people of Christchurch East and to her to select a worthy successor. Our nomination and selection process will be transparent, locally focussed and full of the positivity and energy which makes the East stand out”.
