Council candidates encouraged to come along and get informed
Greater Wellington Regional Council will be hosting its candidate information evening on Tuesday 30 July to assist potential candidates in running for council.
The session was originally scheduled to be held at the regional council offices on Wakefield Street, but has been moved to Wellington City Council after an engineers’ report following last week’s 6.5 earthquake found the stairwells in the GWRC building are compromised.
Regional council electoral officer Margaret Meek says the evening will provide a chance for potential candidates to ask questions and get themselves acquainted with the electoral process.
“This is an opportunity for those who have either already put their names forward, or are thinking about putting their names forward, to join in a discussion about the elections and gain a better understanding about what is expected of them.
“I encourage anyone who is looking to stand for regional council to come along and join in the evening.”
The Candidate evening begins at 6pm on Tuesday 30 July and will be held in Committee Room 2 at the Wellington City Council building, 101 Wakefield Street Wellington.
Nomination forms and information packs can still be collected from, and returned to, the ground floor reception of the Greater Wellington Regional Council building at 142 Wakefield Street. Nominations close at 12noon on 16 August. For further information about the elections go to www.gw.govt.nz/elections.
