Exciting times ahead for city, says Hutt City Mayor

Hutt City Mayor Ray Wallace says he will continue to keep a steady hand on city finances while promoting new enterprise and community development after being returned with the highest majority ever for a contested Lower Hutt mayoralty.

“I am very humbled by the high level of support from the community,” he says.

Mayor Wallace says the positive result is a reflection of the hard work he and the council have contributed during his first term as mayor. He received 86 per cent of all votes cast giving him 21,439 votes. His majority of 18,000 is the largest recorded in a Lower Hutt mayoral contest

“We have come a long way in the past three years, but there is still a lot more work to do,” says Mayor Wallace who believes there are exciting times ahead for Lower Hutt.

“Our rates and debt have been very well managed placing us in an excellent position to invest in the future of our city,” he says.

“The Walter Nash Stadium upgrade is already under way and plans are being developed for a new convention centre in Lower Hutt.

“The Fraser Park Sportsville Complex will further enhance recreational and sporting facilities available within Lower Hutt and provide a sporting hub for the greater Wellington region.

“Continued improvements in local community facilities are also on the agenda for the new Council.”

“I welcome the new councillors and look forward to working with them to build a strong and collegial council focused on working for the good of the community and prosperity of the city,” he says.

“I also wish to acknowledge the significant contribution made to our community by former councillor Ross Jamieson.”

Mayor Wallace has previously announced he will appoint Cr David Bassett as his Deputy Mayor and confirmed that appointment today.

“Hutt City has shown it can achieve outstanding results through good management and a vision for the future – we now need to get on with the job,” he says.

Trial Over 'Anonymous' Donations: John Banks Resigns As Minister
