The
Taxpayers’ Union today slammed the announcements that MPs
will receive a pay rise estimated to be at least $3,500 per
MP, back dated to July.
“Backdating the pay
rise is a slap in the face to taxpayers who will be feeling
the pinch of the coming Christmas season,” says Jordan
Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers’
Union.
“Until MPs can get the house in order, and
the Government back into surplus, politicians should not be
borrowing more money to line their own
pockets.”
