20% Rates Increase For Unsellable Properties

Responding to media reports that some Christchurch residents still trying to dry out their flooded homes now face a 20% increase in rates, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers’ Union says:

“It is unconscionable for the Council to be on the one hand dithering over flood protection, while on the other ramping up rates on properties that are reportedly unsellable.”

“The rating values are not reflecting reality. It is a slap in the face to Christchurch flood victims.”
