Responding
to media reports that some Christchurch residents still
trying to dry out their flooded homes now face a 20%
increase in rates, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of
the Taxpayers’ Union says:
“It is unconscionable
for the Council to be on the one hand dithering over flood
protection, while on the other ramping up rates on
properties that are reportedly unsellable.”
“The
rating values are not reflecting reality. It is a slap in
the face to Christchurch flood
victims.”
