Key Opts for Lolly Scramble Over Tax Cuts

The Taxpayers’ Union is disappointed with Prime Minister John Key’s indication that the May Budget will have no plans for tax cuts. Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:

“Just as the Government is in sight of a surplus, the Prime Minister is indicating that any extra cash will be used for election bribes rather than giving it back to those who earned it. With the economy recovering and the Government books nearly back in shape, Wellington should be giving New Zealand taxpayers a break and leaving more money in their pockets.”

“The reduction in ACC levies which came into effect on April 1 were a good start, but there is plenty more to do to ease New Zealand’s high tax burden.”
