Court agrees; CTU to take private prosecution over forestry death
The CTU has been granted permission from the Court to take a private prosecution against a M & A Cross Ltd the employer of forestry worker Charles Findlay who was killed at work.
"Charles' death was totally avoidable. If his employer had taken reasonable steps to ensure his health and safety he would still be alive today." CTU President Helen Kelly said.
"The forestry industry cannot continue to be allowed to take such a cavalier attitude with peoples lives. They must prioritise peoples lives over profits" Kelly said.
"So many of the problems in the forestry industry would be assisted though regulation by the government. But still Simon Bridges refuses to act to make New Zealands most dangerous industry safer. The Government is failing these workers." Kelly said.
"This private prosecution is being taken because Charles shouldn't have died at work and the industry must be held to account." Kelly said.
