Taxpayers’ Union Slam Auckland Parking Fee Hike
Taxpayers’ Union Slam Auckland Parking Fee Hike
4 June 2014
Responding to today’s report in the NZ Herald that Auckland Mayor Len Brown supports a $1 hourly fee rise for central city parking, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers’ Union says:
“This is effectively an extra tax on the daily commuter. No wonder Auckland Transport needs the money, it’s currently throwing millions at PR and advertising to trumpet its new trains, but appears to be short for its basic operations."
“People living in the suburbs and working in the city, for most of whom driving is the only realistic option, are going to be hit hard in the pocket if these proposed changes become reality. Those who use inner city street parking will have to pay $64 a day or $320 a week based on 8 hours a day parking."
The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union is a non-partisan activist group, dedicated to being the voice for Kiwi taxpayers in the corridors of power. It’s here to fight government waste and make sure New Zealanders get value for money from their tax dollar.
