Passport Tax: Well Done Dunne

Passport Tax: Well Done Dunne

12 August 2014

Responding to the announcement by Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne, that the Government will review New Zealand's passport validity periods with a view of returning to a ten year passport regime, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers Union says:

“This is great news for New Zealand taxpayers, who currently pay more for the right to travel than anyone else in the world.”

“The announcement from the Minister reflects common sense. Earlier in the year, the Taxpayers’ Union helped lead a campaign calling for an extension to the validity period and a significant reduction in the price of New Zealand passports. It now looks like we are close to mission accomplished.”

In February, the Taxpayers’ Union released Sky High: Briefing Paper on Passport Affordability.

The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union is an independent activist group, dedicated to being the voice for Kiwi taxpayers in the corridors of power. It’s here to fight government waste and make sure New Zealanders get value for money from their tax dollar.
