Small Window of Opportunity for NZ First

MEDIA RELEASE

Small Window of Opportunity for NZ First

12 SEPTEMBER 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Taxpayers’ Union is repeating calls for New Zealand First leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, to front up with policy detail that will allow his manifesto to be costed ahead of the September 20 election. The economic expert the Taxpayers’ Union has engaged to provide independent numbers for the Union's 'Bribe-O-Meter is completing the final update which will be made public in the coming days.Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says:

“The Taxpayers’ Union has made numerous formal and informal approaches to Mr Peters and his party. Despite our best efforts Mr Peters continues to fob off providing transparency to the voting public.”

“The last time National was forced to go into government with Mr Peters, it cost taxpayers $5 billion, or $2,950 per household."

“While most parties have been receptive to our requests and helpful in providing their own policy costings for scrutiny, Mr Peters’ numbers continue to evade the light of day.”

“NZ First MPs and candidates should be asking their leader why other political parties are confident to produce and stand by their policy costings, but Mr Peters continues to avoid such basic transparency with voters.”

“We are calling on Mr Peters to front up in this 11th hour with his policy costings to provide the voting public with transparency. Surely if Mr Craig can do it, so can Mr Peters.”
