Submissions sought on Ranman fungicide

Submissions sought on Ranman fungicide

The Environmental Protection Authority is calling for submissions on an application to import Ranman - a fungicide containing the active ingredient, cyazofamid. It is used to treat various fungal and soil-borne diseases in horticultural crops. Cyazofamid is new to New Zealand, but has been registered for use in the USA and Japan.

View application details and information on the EPA website: http://www.epa.govt.nz/search-databases/Pages/applications-details.aspx?appID=APP201941

The public are invited to make submissions on the application to the EPA. These submissions will be used to inform a decision on the application by a decision-making committee of the EPA.

The submission period is now open and will close at 5pm on 18 November 2014. Submitters can elect to be heard at a public hearing. If they do so a hearing will be held before a decision is made on the application, the date of which will be confirmed after submissions close. The EPA will provide at least 10 working days’ notice of the hearing date, time and place to all parties to the application.

The EPA’s role is to determine applications to import and manufacture hazardous substances under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996. We put controls in place when we approve applications to manage the risks of hazardous substances to safeguard people and the environment.

Further information on submissions and the hearing process can be found at http://www.epa.govt.nz/about-us/have-your-say.
