Flavell call for review is bollocks – McVicar

The Justice Spokesman for Conservative Party, Garth McVicar, says it is time Maori stopped blaming others for the fact that more young Maori are committing crime.

McVicar was commenting on a call by new Minister of Maori Development Te Ururoa Flavell for a review of the justice system because young Maori are increasingly over represented in youth crime statistics.

Flavell calls justice system racist

McVicar said it was exactly this sort of pandering to Maori offenders that was the reason young Maori were offending.

“I agree that far too many young Maori are committing crime but that is not because the justice system is biased against Maori.”

“Obviously Mr. Flavell has his head in the sand if he can’t see that the excuse driven mentality that has been created for and catering to Maori is the problem, not that the justice system is racist.”

“If Mr Flavell is serious about wanting to reduce the number of young Maori criminals I suggest he would do well to visit some of our prisons and see how they have become breeding grounds for young offenders.”
