Anglican Family Care staff to rally as industrial action scales up

Public Service Association (PSA) members working at Anglican Family Care (AFC) in Dunedin will hold two rallies in Dunedin next week as they seek a fair pay offer, following a week of low-key industrial action.

When: Wednesday 29 October and Thursday 30 October, 12.10pm

The 25 AFC staff started industrial action on Monday October 20, and will continue with seven separate pieces of industrial action until AFC return to the bargaining table with an improved offer.

Jon Henning, Dunedin PSA organiser, said “The hard working staff at AFC need a fair pay offer, not more tired excuses from management,”

“The PSA represents people at other organisations in similar positions to AFC who manage to find money for fair pay offers.

“We’re ready to go back to the bargaining table as soon as AFC stop making excuses and come back with real movement.

“AFC have found money to hire external consultants for restructuring and bargaining, but they aren’t willing to find money to pay their own staff fairly.

“PSA members at AFC work hard to support Otago families through tough times, but now are facing tough times themselves.

“The rising cost of living is hurting AFC’s staff just like it hurts their clients – AFC management cannot continue to bury their heads in the sand,” said Jon Henning.

Industrial action details

1. Work to rule: work the hours you are paid for (including only travelling for work related purposes in work time), take the breaks you are entitled to. Just do your role as set out in the job description. Don’t do overtime. This action commences 20 October 2014 until 14 November 2014 inclusive.

2 - Withdrawal of goodwill. Don’t clean cars. Don’t cover the absences of others. Don’t clean or tidy the kitchen or any other space on site. This action commences 20 October 2014 until 14 November 2014 inclusive.

3 - Withdrawal of cooperation in relation to the training of staff. Do not assist in the orientation or training of new staff. This action commences 20 October 2014 until 14 November 2014 inclusive.

4 - No work after close of business. Don’t answer phones or emails outside work hours. All electronic equipment to be returned to the office by close of business each day. This action commences 20 October 2014 until 14 November 2014 inclusive.

5 - Cessation of the inputting of hours into the agency database. This action commences 27 October 2014 until 14 November 2014 inclusive.

6 - Pickets at lunch breaks and any meetings of the agency’s Board. This action commences 27 October 2014 until 14 November 2014 inclusive.

7 - Unpaid stopwork meeting on 3 November from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
