Len Brown's Broken Promise on Rates


Responding to the NZ Herald report that Auckland Mayor Len Brown has broken his cornerstone election promise to not increase rates by more than 2.5 per cent,Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says:

“Len Brown has turned his back on Aucklanders who voted for him on the back of a promise to cap rate rises at 2.5 per cent. “

“The Mayor’s tax and spend record is a far cry from his rhetoric.”

“With a burgeoning number of high-paid Council bureaucrats and motorway tolls around the corner Aucklanders are already feeling the Council’s hands around their wallets.”

“By voting to break his promise to Aucklanders, Len Brown has effectively admitted that he has failed to reduce Council spending which has ballooned under his watch.”
