Media release – Select Committee Services

Hawke’s Bay Regional Planning Committee Bill
Te Hiku Claims Settlement Bill
Te Kawerau ā Maki Claims Settlement Bill

Tutehounuku Korako, Chair of the Māori Affairs Committee, is inviting public submissions on these bills. The closing date for submissions is Wednesday, 17 December 2014.

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Planning Committee Bill establishes a statutory body called the Hawke’s Bay Regional Planning Committee. The committee would draw its members from the Hawke's Bay Regional Council and nine iwi or hapu groups and would have input into the development and review of the regional policy statement and regional plans for the Hawke's Bay Regional Council region.

The Te Hiku Claims Settlement bill seeks to give effect to the deeds of settlement in which the Crown and Ngati Kuri, Te Aupouri, Ngai Takoto, and Te Rarawa agreed to the final settlement of the historical Treaty of Waitangi claims of those iwi.

Te Te Kawerau ā Maki Settlement Bill seeks to give effect to the deed of settlement entered into by the Crown and Te Kawerau ā Maki on 22 February 2014 for the final settlement of historical Treaty of Waitangi claims of Te Kawerau ā Maki.

A copy of each bill can be purchased at any Bennetts Government Bookshop or viewed online at www.legislation.govt.nz
