WELLINGTON CHAMBER JOIN COUNCIL IN SANDPIT
OF STUPIDITY
7 NOVEMBER 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
Responding to theDominion Post’s reportthat
the Wellington City Council has spent $20,000 on a sandpit
shaded by the earthquake prone Town Hall,Taxpayers’ UnionExecutive
Director Jordan Williams says:
“How on earth

in the city centre is a good use of limited resources? The
pristine Oriental Bay is only a stone’s throw
away.”
“It’s the sort of thing people would never do
with their own money, but politicians are happy to do with
others'."
"Members of the Wellington Employers' Chamber of
Commerce have already contacted the Taxpayers' Union
concerned that their organisation is backing this
lunacy. A potential explanation is that like many chambers,
their ability to hold the local council to account may be
undermined by acceptance of ratepayer
funding.”
