Former Governors General to honour ANZAC Centenary on commemorative Gallipoli-2015 cruise
Former Governors General of New Zealand and Australia will join a special Gallipoli-2015 charter cruise to pay tribute to the ANZACs near the beaches where they landed 100 years before.
Spaces are being offered on the cruise for those New Zealanders who have been awarded tickets to the Anzac services through the official ballot; or for those who do not have tickets but still wish to visit Gallipoli around the time of the Centenary of the ANZAC landings.
Sir Anand Satyanand and Dr Peter Hollingworth will make an important contribution to Anzac Day centennial commemorations on the cruise, which will also play host to world-renowned New Zealand soprano, Dame Malvina Major, and respected Gallipoli experts, including curator and historian, Brad Manera, and author Dr John Basarin. Highlights include a minute-by-minute re-enactment of the ANZAC voyage from Lemnos to Gallipoli; a solemn dedication where Australia’s E-class submarine the HMAS AE2 submarine lies in the Sea of Marmara; and an on-board Dawn Service on Anzac Day, with a link to the broadcast of the Dawn Service at Anzac Cove.
Both Satyanand and Hollingworth are Rotarians and have served their countries in noteworthy careers, including community service and appointments of the highest calling. Their experiences at the top levels of statesmanship in New Zealand and Australia will provide passengers with fantastic insight into how the Anzac spirit has developed over the last 100 years.
The only Anzac Centenary travel endorsed by Australian Geographic, the Gallipoli-2015 Epic Cruise is a private charter of AZAMARA Journey, placed in the top 25 luxury cruise liners of its class globally. The cruise is a once in a lifetime opportunity to not only participate in one extraordinary moment but glimpse back in time, from ancient civilisations to futile conflict and discover their astonishing stories.
The cruise has been co-organised by Managing Director of Innovative Travel, Robyn Galloway. She advises anyone looking to book their travel to Turkey for centenary commemorations to move fast.
“Sorting out travel for the busy commemoration periods can be challenging for any year and there has been exceptional interest in 2015,” says Galloway. “In Australia and New Zealand, hundreds of people on the waiting list for balloted tickets to the Anzac Day Dawn Service have just found out in the last two weeks that they have tickets and many will be looking to book travel.
“We also recognise that not everyone who wants to be on the Gallipoli Peninsula for Anzac Day will be able to attend the services and this charter voyage is an important contribution. By berthing at Canakkale Port, prior to Anzac Day, our cruise will provide easy disembarkation at the port for clients attending the Anzac Day service and for all those without tickets we will have our own Dawn Service on-board.”
Prior to joining the Gallipoli-2015 Epic Cruise, Former Governors General, Peter Hollingworth and Sir Anand Satyanand will be keynote speakers, representing Australia and New Zealand respectively at the Rotary Gallipoli 2015 Peace Conference being held in Istanbul on 18 April 2015.
The theme of the Conference which is being organised by Turkish Rotarians is: “Promoting peace building through showcasing the friendship which developed between Turkey, Australia and New Zealand following the tragic campaign of Gallipoli in 1915.”
