Taxpayers' Union Congratulates PM on IDU
Appointment
The Taxpayers’ Union is
today congratulating Rt. Hon. John Key on becoming the
Chair of the International Democrat
Union, as former Australian Prime Minister
John Howard retires from the role after 12
years.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive
Director Jordan Williams says:
“The world’s
centre-right political leaders will now be looking to John
Key for leadership. We hope today’s appointment
foreshadows a new effort by the Government to promote fiscal
conservatism and trim the size and burden of the state
sector.”
“Mr Key’s new position makes, for
example, the cost of his Government’s corporate welfare
programmes, more difficult to ignore.”
The IDU comprises 54 members from across
Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia and the Americas.
The Taxpayers’ Union partly owes its existence
to the IDU. The Union’s founders met the United Kingdom
TaxPayers’ Alliance founder, Matthew Elliot, at IDU
events. The two groups are now sister
organisations.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
