Another IT Budget Blowout 'All Too Routine'
Another IT Budget Blowout 'All Too Routine'
5 December 2014
Responding to the NZ Herald report that the Joint Border Management System (JBMS) IT project has run over budget by almost $30 million, Taxpayers’ Union Spokesman Ben Craven says:
“Once again a Government department seems to have presided over an IT project blowout without any accountability.”
“This cost blowout alone represents more than $5 for every New Zealander. Taxpayers deserve a better explanation as to how this went so wrong.”
“It seems all too routine that public sector IT projects are failing. It's time for an all of government look at IT project management, and whether procurement can be improved so that it's the contractors, and not taxpayers, that bear the risk.”
The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union is an independent activist group, dedicated to being the voice for Kiwi taxpayers in the corridors of power. It’s here to fight government waste and make sure New Zealanders get value for money from their tax dollar.
