Big Red Jar' of Jaffas Competition Result

Big Red Jar' of Jaffas Competition Result

Saturday, 20 December 2014, 3:00pm
Press Release: Andersons Bay-Peninsula Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party

One Dunedin Peninsula schoolboy should be buzzing with a PRE-Christmas prize bag of 171 Jaffas. Aleksander Hay was the only entrant among 34 others who correctly guessed the exact number of Jaffas in 'The Big Red Jar' competition. The competition was run by the Andersons Bay-Peninsula Branch of the Labour Party at the recent South Dunedin Street Festival.

Branch Secretary, Scott Rickerby, said it was a hot day during the Street Festival and some entrants had observed that the Jaffas might melt in the sun. That prompted the Chairperson, Richman Wee, to conduct some quality control tests after the whole jar of Jaffas was counted. Many Jaffas found to be below standard were eagerly disposed off by Wee who did a recount and replaced them with new ones. "I must confess I did feel quite a bit of a sugar rush after that", he said.

Andersons Bay-Peninsula branch thanks all participants who entered the competition. The Branch also thanks members of the community who have given their support in the past few months and extends best wishes to all for the festive season.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
