Taxpayer Funded Surfboards And Fishing Rods

Taxpayer Funded Surfboards And Fishing Rods

The Health Promotion Agency’s “Not Beersies" campaign has got even more ridiculous with the its staff now giving away free fishing rods, surfboards and even petrol vouchers to members of the public who provide positive comments about the campaign. Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:

“After the widespread criticism of the $1.2 million plus campaign, the HPA appears to now be using taxpayer money to buy positive feedback."

“This is a campaign that according to the HPA’s own analysis is confusing and counterproductive. It was bad enough that the HPA admitted they conduct no cost benefit analysis of their campaigns, but spending taxpayer money for fishing rods and surf board is simply shameless."

“The HPA’s job is supposed to be targeting those most likely to suffer alcohol related harm. Instead they’ve wasted at least $1.2 million on a pointless campaign and playing Santa Claus. We say it’s time the Minister of Health step-in and clip the wings of the Agency.”

“Surely there are higher priorities for the health dollar than giving away fishing rods and other freebies on the taxpayer,” concludes Mr Williams.
