ACT announces candidate for Northland by-election
ACT Party President John Thompson is pleased to announce Robin Grieve as ACT's candidate for this year's Northland by-election.
"ACT is energised and refreshed after the 2014 campaign," said Thompson.
"Robin is an excellent speaker and experienced campaigner who embodies ACT's values. He will contest Northland with vigour."
Grieve stood in the third position on ACT's list in 2014, and stood in the Whangarei electorate in the last two elections. He owns an avocado orchard and is a consultant and trainer for Farmsafe. He chairs Pastural Farming Climate Research, an organisation which uses scientific research to advocate for the removal of livestock emissions from the National Government’s emission trading scheme.
Grieve has also represented New Zealand internationally three times in Toastmasters competitions.
"I'm delighted to have been selected as the candidate for the Northland by-election," said Grieve.
"It's time to unlock Northland's vast economic potential. The region is rich in resources and blessed in climate. But regulations like the Resource Management Act and excessive compliance requirements suppress economic activity, and Auckland-centric infrastructure investment stifles trade and tourism.
Grieve is very much opposed to the John Key Government’s tendency to centralise control wherever possible. “Regions like Northland do not need Wellington telling us what to do,” he said.
"A vote for me sends a sharp message to the government: stop holding Northland back."
