Government-Picked Winner Loses Taxpayers' Money
The Taxpayers' Union can reveal that
taxpayers forked out $287,500 in corporate welfare to
the failed eHome business that is currently in receivership
owing $17.5 million to creditors.
Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers' Union, says:
"It's not good enough that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment are ducking for cover on this. This is taxpayer money used to 'pick a winner' that subsequently flopped."
"The key question is why taxpayers are subsidising a private building company in the first place. Other than a nice photo op for politicians it's not clear how anyone wins from these arrangements."
"Trying to pick winners with taxpayers' money is a poor way to try and bring about more affordable housing. Politicians should be looking at the root cause of the problem, not throwing about money and hoping for the best."
