Will MPs Put Taxpayers' Money Where Their Mouth
is?
The
Taxpayers’ Union is calling the bluff of MPs and has
written to each one asking whether they will be accepting
the backdated pay increases announced yesterday.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams,
says:
“MPs from all parties
are pontificating that they don’t need a pay hike and that
the system is flawed. We agree, but want clarification from
every MP whether they will be keeping the money, returning
it to the Crown, or giving it to a charity.”
“We want
to know how many MPs are saying one thing but doing
another.”
“Last night we launched an online petition
calling on John Key to appoint a taxpayers’ representative
to the Remuneration Authority. Without someone looking out
for taxpayers, these unjustified pay hikes are
inevitable."
The Taxpayers’ Union has asked for MPs to
respond by 5pm tonight. A list of MP’s responses will be
available at taxpayers.org.nz this
evening.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
