The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming Labour Party revenue spokesperson, Clayton Cosgrove’s, challenge to former and current Revenue Ministers Peter Dunne and Todd McClay over the IRD’s child support cost blowout. Yesterday the Taxpayers’ Union alerted media to what appears to be the largest IT cost escalation since the INCIS Police computer system. Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:
“We back Clayton Cosgrove’s call for Todd McClay and Peter Dunne to front up and explain why the Child Support system had a blowout from $30m to $210m in just four years.”
“It’s not good enough for the Ministers to go into hiding and not answer basic questions about how this happened and who is responsible. The amount blown is equal to more than $100 for every New Zealand household. Taxpayers deserves answers."
“These questions aren’t that taxing, so why are the Ministers avoiding them?”
