Replacement of Auckland Chief Planner Welcomed

Taxpayers' Union Welcome Replacement of Auckland Chief Planner

9 APRIL 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming Auckland Council's decision to replace its controversial planning officer, Dr Roger Blakeley. Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:

“Dr Blakeley was one of the driving forces behind the last minute inclusion of the 'cultural impact assessment' requirements in Auckland’s Unitary Plan.

“On Wednesday the Taxpayers’ Union, with several other organisations, will be launching a report detailing the Mana Whenua cultural impact provisions which, in effect, are a 'Taniwha Tax' on Auckland property owners."

“We hope Dr Blakeley’s departure indicates the Council is willing to repair the great damage that planning measures such as the cultural impact requirements have created.”
