Fewer prison jobs to go, but privatisation still a problem
The Public Service Association (PSA) is
pleased that the Department of Corrections has reduced the
number of jobs to be cut nationwide by 68 from their
original proposal.
Erin Polaczuk, PSA national secretary, said “It is clear that the Department took our feedback seriously and made improvements to their original proposal,”
“Quality public sector jobs will still be lost however, to support a privatisation agenda that makes no sense for prisons in this country.
“The Department’s offer of enhanced early retirement and transfer / relocation options will make things easier on those facing the loss of their jobs.
“If jobs have to go, it is good to see a proper process, with many options available for staff.
“We’ll continue to support our prison members through what will be a difficult time for many,” said Erin Polaczuk.
