Unanswered Questions in Potential Govt. Tender Manipulation

Unanswered Questions in Potential Govt. Tender Manipulation

Responding to the new claims aired tonight on One News regarding the Saudi sheep scandal that the Government was apparently keeping the Saudi businessman, Hmood Al Khalaf, “in the loop” about the tender process,Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams says:

“Government tender processes are supposed to be operated without political interference and deliver value for money.”

"These new revelations lead to real questions about whether the Government has undermined the process or let a close relationship cloud its judgment."

"The Government spent more than a million taxpayer bucks to fly 900 sheep half the way around the world and give to a Saundi businessman. It spent another $6 million to give him a farm and it now appears politicians had their nose in the tender process which resulted in a business partner of the Saundi getting the contract."

"These allegations are too serious for Ministers to obfuscate away. They need to front-up and answer how this deal came about.”
