The
Human Rights Commission is welcoming this week’s MasSiVe
hikoi led by Kiwi men who oppose sexual violence.
“I’d
like to particularly congratulate educator and MP Kelvin
Davis for leading the MasSiVe hikoi, walking the talk and
showcasing that more men need to stand against the sexual
violence of women” said Human Rights Commissioner Dr
Jackie Blue.
“I am really proud to see that MPs from all
parties are supporting this important hikoi.”
“Sexual
violence isn’t just a woman’s problem, sexual violence
is everyone’s problem and it can only be solved if Kiwi
men join Kiwi women to highlight and fight sexual
violence.”
MAsSiVe is a rallying cry for any man who
opposes sexual violence, against anybody, in any shape or
form, be it verbal, physical or emotional with a hikoi
starting tomorrow from West Auckland to Te Rerenga Wairua to
raise awareness around Men Against Sexual
Violence.
“It’s not OK to have sexual violence in our
communities and I’m proud to see everyday Kiwi men
standing up to remind us of this,” said Dr
Blue. ENDS

Whatever messages of tolerance and inclusion are offered in daylight, much of our culture tends to be hostile to Islam when we’re sitting in the dark, with popcorn. Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
