World-class Nutritionist Honoured for Work in Sport

World-class Nutritionist Honoured for Work in Sport

High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) Chief Executive Alex Baumann says the recognition of Performance Nutritionist Jeni Pearce in the Queen’s Birthday Honours is very well deserved.

Jeni has today been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to sports nutrition.

``Jeni is truly world-class in her field. Today’s honour recognises the enormous contribution she has made throughout her career in sports nutrition both in the community and in her specialised work with high performance athletes,” Baumann says.

Jeni says she is thrilled to receive the honour.

``For me, this recognises the growth in the discipline and knowledge of what it takes to be a top dietitian or nutritionist. I have seen the discipline grow from one that was little understood to what is now a popular career choice for many. Throughout my career, I’ve also seen the progression in the industry to the very high standards and practices that we have in place now. I have specialised in performance nutrition for high performance athletes, which is an extremely rewarding area of work where getting everything right makes a huge difference to the ability of Kiwi athletes to perform at their best.’’

Baumann says it’s fantastic to see members of HPSNZ staff recognised for their outstanding achievements. In last year’s Queen’s Birthday honours, former player and coach Eddie Kohlhase, who has been working with high performance coaches in his work with HPSNZ, was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to softball.
