Project Janszoon wins supreme award at Green Ribbon Awards

Project Janszoon is honoured to win both the Supreme Award and Philanthropy and Partnership category, at the 2015 Green Ribbon Awards.

The awards recognise groups working to improve and protect New Zealand’s water, air, land, forests and treasured species.

Project Janszoon is a privately funded trust named after Abel “Janszoon” Tasman. Over a 30-year time frame it is working with DOC, the Abel Tasman Birdsong Trust, the community and iwi to reduce predator numbers and weeds, restore eco-systems, and re-introduce native birds, animals and plants in the Abel Tasman National Park.

Project Janszoon Director Devon Mclean says he was delighted to win the award amongst so many deserving environmental groups.

“The finalists and winners at this years Green Ribbon Awards are making significant inroads into protecting New Zealand’s environment and we are honoured to stand amongst them. Project Janszoon is a good example of a partnership between a philanthropic trust, Government and the community, with everyone working towards a common environmental goal. We hope this model can be replicated and exceeded by others in years to come,” he says.
