Arun Kumar murder - two steps back for Law & Order

Arun Kumar murder - two steps back for Law & Order

24th June 2016

The accused murderer of Arun Kumar was found not guilty on charges of murder instead guilty of manslaughter. His accomplice was found not guilty of all charges.

Were they wrongly charged or has the justice system gone wrong?

Sensible Sentencing Youth Spokesperson Jess McVicar says “ These boys knew exactly what the outcome could have been when they made a conscious decision to go into these premises and commit armed robbery. They made a 'CHOICE' to take a weapon.”

“When you walk into someone else's property with the intention of committing robbery you are then guilty, when you take a deadly weapon you can not tell me that they did not have the intention of using the weapon if the situation came to that!”

The jury heard the accused had a head injury 8 years ago which could have made it hard for him to deal with a complex situation.

“The only thing this kid found it hard to deal with was getting caught, then the excuses begin. 'He came from an awful upbringing , he bumped his head , he did not intend on the knife killing him when it went into his neck!' I mean come on…really??? Is this what we have come to?"

"An innocent man has been murdered just because two kids decided they wanted what was not theirs and would intentionally harm to get it!"

"One is now walking free , released of any convictions because he was only guarding the door."
Jess says “If he was 100% innocent he either would not have been there or could have raised an alarm knowing what was going on, to me, he is not innocent , he knew what was happening and was guarding the door as to ensure they didn't get caught!"

"This is just another win to the criminal and another loss to the victim. These boys will walk free , one may have a few years jail time but will no doubt be let out on good behaviour. They will probably harm again because the justice system has failed to teach them a lesson."

Jess says, this is two-steps back for law and order in this country, "They have had a slap on the wrist as if to say “the message this sends is. 'Its ok to say you had a hard life and everyone will forgive you and you can carry on with your life!"
