Taxpayers' Union Welcome Labour Party Tax Proposal

Taxpayers' Union Welcome Labour Party Tax Proposal

17 JULY 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming the release of the Labour Party’s tax policy, which would enable SMEs to opt for a PAYE regime. Taxpayers’ Union Chairman, John Bishop, says:

“It is not very clear as to what the effect of the policy would be, however if it results in reduced compliance and lessens the burden on SMEs then we welcome the Labour Party’s proposal.”

“Provisional tax is often dreaded by small business owners, as estimates are based on the previous year’s income. These businesses can have variable incomes and can find themselves having to best guess, scrimp and save for overly burdensome tax bills.”

“The tax regime for SMEs should change to take advantage of the technology most New Zealanders now use to run their businesses and meet their tax obligations. It is good to see a policy proposal promoting a constructive debate on how we fund the state, rather than simply detailing a spending wish list.”
